THE CIGARRO JOURNAL

An annual, in the making.

The Cigarro Journal is a forthcoming annual, published as a digital PDF. Cigarro is a web app for tracking and reviewing premium cigars, and the Journal is where a year of that logging will be gathered and set in type. Hugh Ashby is the concierge persona of Cigarro, and the Journal is his to edit. The first edition has not been published, and there is no date to give you. What follows is what it will hold, and how to be told when it is ready.

01What it is

What is the Cigarro Journal?

The Cigarro Journal is a forthcoming annual publication from Cigarro, issued once a year as a digital PDF and given to Private Reserve members as part of their membership. It gathers a year of members’ logging into something you can read in an armchair rather than scroll: what the house actually smoked, how those cigars behaved third by third, and the writing that went out on Monday mornings. It is not a magazine, it is not for sale, and it does not exist yet.

We would rather describe it honestly while it is still forthcoming than dress it up as shipped. Nothing on this page is available to read today.

02The first edition

What the first edition will hold.

Three things will carry the edition, along with a selection of the year’s essays from the Weekly Ember, revised for the page and set properly rather than pasted from an inbox.

The year's most-logged cigars

What members actually reached for across the year, counted from their own humidors and reviews rather than from anyone’s press release. No cigar can buy its way onto that list, because we take nothing from manufacturers or retailers.

The Cigar Signature of the year

The Cigar Signature charts how a cigar moves from the first third to the last. Gathered across a whole year of members’ reviews, it shows which cigars kept their nerve to the band and which ones did not.

The Method, in print

The Cigarro Method set out at length, third by third, with the readings explained and room left to write. The version you can keep on a shelf rather than open in a browser.

03Who receives it

It goes to Private Reserve.

When the first edition is ready it goes to Private Reserve members, as part of the membership rather than as a separate purchase. Private Reserve is $29.99 CAD a month, it carries unlimited humidor entries, and the pricing page sets out where it sits against the other four tiers. To be clear about what you are joining today: the membership gives you unlimited capacity now, and the Journal is a forthcoming part of it, not a delivered one.

If you would rather simply be told when it appears, the Weekly Ember carries the news. Hugh writes it on Mondays, and it costs nothing.

04The Weekly Ember

Be told when it is ready.

One letter, Monday mornings, from Hugh. When the first edition of the Journal is ready, the Ember is where you will hear of it first.

Take the chair by the fire.

Private Reserve members will receive the Journal when it is published. What they have today is unlimited capacity and a seat at the front of everything we build next.
